Mohali, November 12
Officials of Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) have decided to check records of all hospitals responsible for disposal of such waste here.
The decision comes in wake of recovery of biomedical waste from a scrap dealer at Makhan Majra by Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee.
Talking on the issue, AK Sharma, executive engineer, PPCB said they would soon start their investigation in connection with recovery of large biomedical waste material from the premises of the scrap dealer at Makhan Majra.
It is to be noted that the waste in question reportedly belonged to a private hospital, located in Mohali.
Sharma added they received the information in this regard from media reports. “We are yet to receive any information from our counterparts in Chandigarh in this connection,” said Sharma.
He added that there was system of bar-coding in connection with disposal of such waste in the state. “All such waste could go out of the hospital only after getting bar-codes on their bags/containers. The system is online and could be checked while sitting anywhere,” said Sharma.
