PU delegates meet Nobel laureate

Chandigarh, January 6
Delegation from Panjab University (PU), under the leadership of Professor Devinder Mehta, Dean, Faculty of Science, Physics Department, met Professor Avram Hershko, a Nobel laureate in chemistry for the discovery of ubiquitin-mediated protein degradation, here on Sunday.
Earlier, PU Vice-Chancellor Raj Kumar met Hershko during the inaugural session of the 106th Indian Science Congress held in Jalandhar recently.
The delegation apprised him of the research and innovation at Panjab University and the work done by its various stakeholders. Professor Sanjiv Puri shared various research outcomes of the PU through a presentation during the meeting.
Hershko talked about the usage of traditional Indian medicine knowledge in the development of medicines. He was informed about the deliverables and patents which have been generated by the university.
Professor Avram Hershko showed interest in research being carried out in the phytomedicine area.
“He was impressed with the concept of CRICK that the PU has initiated. The PU delegation also apprised him of various collaborative areas that the university can work with his team in future,” said the PU spokesperson.
