PU denies affiliation to DAV mgmt institute

The PU Syndicate, while taking stock of the objections filed by the DAV Institute of Management against the university’s inspection committee report, today decided that it will not extend the affiliation to the institute’s MBA course for the academic session 2019-20. 

The institute has been asked to first comply with the conditions imposed on it by the inspection committee for the previous academic session 2018-19, said sources. 

On October 22, the director of the DAV Institute of Management, Sector 10, had written to the Deputy Registrar of Colleges, PU, regarding the submission of comprehensive supplementary objections response as well as remedial actions to update the compliance report to consider for grant of a temporary extension of affiliation for the MBA course at the institute for the session 2019-20.

The inspection committee had, on September 24, listed several deficiencies at the institute and suggested that it should not be granted affiliation to run the MBA course.

The director maintained, “It is observed that the observations given by the committee are not strong enough to stop the grant of temporary extension of affiliation to the MBA course of the institute.”

In the letter, it was stated, “None of the grounds of the observations are non-manageable as brought in this report. Still, the DAV Institute of Management is ready to remove all relevant deficiencies as per the norms of the PU.”

The DAV Institute of Management had started the MBA course affiliated to the PU in 2017-18, but the college was asked not to make admissions for 2018-19 in view of the irregularities pointed by the university’s inspection committee. Yet, students were admitted in the MBA course of the institute. The institute was therefore granted a provisional affiliation for the best interest of the students.

After the inspection committee denied affiliation to  the institute this year, the latter approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court. While the case was still pending before the High Court, the PU inspection committee carried out another inspection at the institute, in which a number of deficiencies were found and it was recommended not to grant temporary affiliation to the institute for its MBA course for the 2019-20 session. 

The institute said even after filing objections to the inspection report on September 26, the issue was not taken up by the Syndicate on October 16. It requested the High Court to let it compile a comprehensive objection report against the probe panel findings that could be placed before the Syndicate.

The High Court had directed the PU to convene a Syndicate meeting as soon as it gets DAV’s comprehensive objection report and the probe panel report and place these before the Syndicate.
