Hostel fee for upcoming session (2018-19) remained largely unchanged with only a minor rise.
A meeting took place under Dean Students Welfare Prof Emanual Nahar today which hiked the electricity charges, celebration fund and maintenance charges. There has been no change in room rent, development fund and charges for lift, water, and mess.
The electricity charges have been hiked by Rs 100. It will now be Rs 2,500 per semester. The celebration fund has been hiked by Rs 100. It will now be Rs 350 per semester.
The maintenance charges are hiked by Rs 100. It will now be Rs 1,100 per semester.
“The celebration fund has been hiked so a proper function could take place. We have to organise lunch and dinner. It helps in intermingling of hostellers which is important,” said Prof Nahar.
He added, “The maintenance charges have been hiked due to Goods and Services Tax (GST). It was not been considered adequate.”
There are eight boys’ hostels, having capacity of around 3,200, and nine women hostels, having capacity of around 7,000. There is one international hostel having a capacity of 100. Here the charges have been hiked for power, development and faculty by Rs 1,000.
“There has been no hike in rent charges here too,” said Prof Nahar.
A couple of months ago, the PU had decided that 50 per cent amount of establishment charges, development fund and repair maintenance would be waived off for residents of working women hostel who were getting less than Rs 15,000 per month. There are around 80 rooms in Working Women Hostel of the PU where research scholars and those working as guest teachers are staying.
