PU remembers Urdu poet Akbar Allahabadi

The Department of Hindi, PU, Chandigarh, on Friday celebrated the birth anniversary of Urdu poet Akbar Hussain Rizvi, popularly known as Akbar Allahabadi.

Known for satire in his poetry, Allahabadi’s life and works were the highlight of the literary exchange organised by Kahi Ankhai, the literary exchange platform of the Department of Hindi.

The famous line penned by Allahabadi, ‘Kheencho na kamaanon ko na talwaar nikaalo, Jab top muqaabil ho to akhbaar nikaalo’ showcased the second theme of the event, which was the National Press Day. Dr Chander Trikha, Director, Haryana Urdu Academy, was the key speaker. He said Akbar Allahabadi was one of the staunch supporters of freedom of the press. — TNS
