Chetan Chaudhary of the Student Organisation of India (SOI), the student wing of the Shiromani Akali Dal, was elected as the president of the Panjab University Campus Students’ Council (PUCSC) on Friday, while the remaining three posts were bagged by the National Student Union of India (NSUI).
Chetan secured 2,792 votes, ABVP's Paras Rattan 2,313, SFS candidate Priya 2,271 and NSUI's Nikhil Narmeta 2,253.
However, the Congress party's student wing NSUI emerged the biggest winner in the student elections, sweeping three of four top positions in what looked like a very close race.
NSUI’s Rahul Kumwar beat SOI’s Ramandeep Markan. He secured 3,520 votes, while Markan got 2,532 votes.
Tegbir Singh won the post of the secretary with 3,178 votes and Manpreet Singh Mahan bagged the joint secretary’s position with 3,796 votes.
