PUSU, SOI, ISA, HIMSU form alliance

Chandigarh, August 31
With only five more days to Panjab University Campus Student Council (PUCSC) elections, many alliances have sprung up. Today, Student Organisation of India (SOI) pledged alliance with three other parties, including PUSU (Panjab University Student Union), ISA (Indian Students’ Association) and Himsu (Himachal Pradesh Students’ Union). The new alliance will now fight the elections from all four posts, including president, secretary, joint secretary and vice-president.
Contesting for the president’s post, SOI’s Chetan Chaudhary said, “We have united because we all share the same vision and that we have the same student issues on mind. I am now a presidential representative of this alliance.”
ISA’s candidate Ramandeep Markan, who is contesting from the post of vice-president, said, “We share the same ideology with other parties that we have aligned with and that’s for the welfare of students.”
Dheeraj Thakur, who is contesting from the joint secretary’s post from Himsu, said, “All those who have entered into this alliance are pursuing masters in PU. We are not just here for politics, but for student welfare too.”
Also, Gagandeep Singh contesting for secretary’s post from PUSU, shared that it was for the betterment of students that the parties aligned.
NSUI, SFS will not align with any party
There is a bleak chance of NSUI or SFS aligning with any party. While Harman of SFS had cleared his stance on alignment well in advance, stating that “it would be an opportunistic move that was against their party’s uncompromising revolutionary principals”, NSUI’s presidential candidate Nikhil Narmeta shared that the party will fight solo. “We won’t like to align with any party simply because there has not been any decision of that sort from the top authorities so far. We will welcome any party that would like to support us, since we are fighting from all four posts, but there’s not much possibility of an alliance,” said Nikhil.
