Rahul of DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8, dominated the field in the boys’ U-41kg taekwondo competition on the concluding day of the inaugural inter-school U-14 cash prize championship at the Sector 7 Sports Complex here today. He got the better of Sanchit in the final.
Hemani Singh of Stepping Stones School, Sector 37, topped the podium in the girls’ +38kg contest. She beat Zoya of Ryan International School, Sector 49, in the title clash.
Earlier, in the girls’ U-26kg category, Ananya overpowered Kumkum to bag the gold medal. Simran and Harnoor won a bronze each.
Pargya Rono topped the list in the girls’ U-32 kg contest. She got the better of Jyoti in the final. Aditi Bhargava and Divya finished joint third.
Mehak defeated Akshita to win the gold medal in the girls’ U-35kg contest. Sonvi Sablok and Soumia had to be content with a bronze medal each.
In the girls’ U-38kg summit clash, Suganda Malik downed Mehakpreet.
Diya triumphs
Diya, meanwhile, dominated the mat in the girls’ U-27kg judo competition. She pipped Vanshika in the final. Pooja and Payal finished joint third.
Japnam Kaur defeated Radhika to win the gold medal in the girls’ U-40kg category. Sakshi and Geeta got a bronze medal each.
In the girls’ U-44kg contest, Navroop Kaur defeated Kashish to bag the top position. Sunita and Mohini shared the third position.
Principal Secretary, Home, Arun Kumar later awarded the winners. Sports Secretary KK Yadav, Sports Director Tejdeep Saini, Joint Director (Sports) Mahender Singh, District Sports Officer Ravinder Singh and former India shuttler Kanwal Thakur Singh were also present during the concluding ceremony of the championship.
The championship was conducted in 16 sports disciplines and 2,400 players participated in it.
