Chandigarh, April 5

Chandigarh’s Raj Kumar clocked 26:77s to win the 200m gold in the men’s 30+ category in the National Master Games at the Sector 7 Sports Complex here on Thursday.

Raj Kumar was followed by Uttar Pradesh’s Ashish Kumar (27:92) in second place, while Punjab’s Arun (31:66) bagged the third position.

In the 35+ years age category, Anil Kumar (24:81) of Haryana pipped Punjab’s Beant Singh (25:92) to claim the top position. Another Punjab athlete, Gurpreet Singh (27:34) returned with the bronze medal.

Punjab’s Bhagwant Singh, meanwhile, dominated the field in the 40+ category with a timing of 25:48s. His state mate Harmeet (27:09) won the silver, while Himachal Pradesh’s Smith (29:23) had to be content with the bronze medal.    

In the women’s 200m, Punjab’s Veerpal Kaur (38:57) raced to gold in the 30+ age category. Mridula (35.64) from Uttarakhand topped the 35+ category. She was followed by Chandigarh’s Sween (36.45) in second place. 

Himacha’s Manisha (34.68) dominated the field in the 40+ age category, while Punjab’s Jagjit Kaur grabbed a gold medal in the 45+ category.  

In the men’s javelin throw, Uttar Pradesh’s Tarun Arya swept a distance of 56.67m to top the 30+ category. Punjab’s Bikramjit Singh (50.37) won a gold medal in the 35+ category, while Chandigarh’s Manpreet Singh (41.50) dominated the field in the 40+ age category.

Uttarakhand’s Harjot Singh (45+), Punjab’s Hariram (50+) and Himachal’s Ruplal (55+) clinched a 

gold each in their respective age categories. 

In the women’s javelin throw competition, Chandigarh’s Pooja Ahlawat (18.50) secured the top position in the 30+ category. Kashmir Kaur of Punjab dominated the field in the 35+ category, while another city athlete, Kuldeep Kaur bagged the gold medal in the 45+ category.   

Chandigarh’s Bhavtaran Singh claimed a silver medal in the men’s triple jump. He covered a distance of 10.09m to finish behind Punjab’s Harwinder Singh (10.29) in the 30+ category. 

Another city athlete, Jagminder Antil (9.53) finished second in the 35+ category. Punjab’s Gurpreet took home the gold medal. 

Meanwhile in hockey, Himachal Pradesh registered a 2-1 win over Haryana, while hosts Chandigarh blanked Delhi 2-0    

In the men’s weightlifting, Chandigarh’s Amrik Singh clinched a gold medal in the 50+ age category. Competing in the 69kg category, Amrik lifted a total 114kg to beat Himachal’s Hans Raj Dhiani (106kg) who returned with a silver.
