On the directions of Rajbala, her brother Suresh Kumar, his son Mohit, her daughter Navita, alias Lovely, and her husband Ram Kumar allegedly murdered Sudha on December 1, 2016.

This was revealed by her daughter, Lovely, who has been remanded in police custody for five days by the district court after her arrest on November 21.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Kamal Deep Goyal said Lovely told the police that her mother Rajbala, who was of dominating nature, did not like Sudha as she suspected that the latter was having illicit relations with someone. Lovely said she, along with Rajbala, her husband Ram Kumar, maternal uncle Suresh Pal and his son Mohit, had planned to kill Sudha.

Lovely told the police that they together killed Sudha by strangling her and later took her body to Bitta village in Ambala district. They burnt the body using paddy straw on December 1, 2016. She further told the police that Rajbala, in order to mislead the police, had lodged a missing complaint 16 days after the incident.

Earlier, Sudha’s brother and parents had claimed that Rajbala and other members of the family had murdered her, but the police did not believe their statements and registered a missing case on December 17, 2016. Even Shailly (10), the surviving daughter of Sudha, had informed the police that she had seen two persons and a woman, who appeared as her aunt Lovely, kidnapping her mother.

The DCP said they would cross-examine Ram Kumar and his wife Lovely regarding the murder of Sudha. They would also interrogate Rajbala’s brother, Suresh Pal, and his son Mohit, who has absconded. Suresh Pal had been living with her sister for the past about 17 years, as he did not have enough agricultural land to feed his own family.
