Chandigarh, May 11
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh will chair the 28th meeting of the Northern Zonal Council, comprising Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan and Delhi, here on Friday. Chief ministers, ministers and chief secretaries of the states and the Union Government will attend the meeting. The 27th meeting of the standing committee of the Northern Zonal Council was held last year at Srinagar to scrutinise the agenda for this meeting. As many as 18 items will be discussed during the Northern Zonal Council.
Five Zonal Councils – Central, Western, Northern, Southern and Eastern—have been established under the State Reorganisation Act, 1956. A zonal council may discuss and make recommendations with regard to any matter of common interest in economic and social planning; border disputes, linguistic minorities or inter-state transport. — TNS
