Dr Kanwarneet, an oncosurgeon-resection, and Dr Varun Singla, a plastic surgeon-reconstruction, performed a difficult surgery for mouth cancer at a private hospital in Panchkula recently.

A 45-year-old patient was admitted to the hospital with a history of growth on the lips for the past one and a half years which had increased significantly in the past six months.

Dr Kanwarneet and Dr Varun Singla said on examination, the patient was found suspected to have a squamous cell carcinoma involving the upper and lower lips, right commissure and cheek mucosa along with mandible.

The 10-hour surgery involved extensive and difficult cancer resection and the subsequent extremely fine microsurgery needed to reconstruct the defect created, said the doctors.
