Mohali, September 9
“A responsible driver must refrain from crossing speed limits, especially at traffic lights. However, it has been alleged that the car was being driven rashly at a high speed. This seems to be true as ascertained from photographs of the car showing extensive damage, the overturned auto-rickshaw, and the number of deaths (four).”
This was stated by the SDM, Mohali, in the report submitted on yesterday’s accident between Brezza car and an auto-rickshaw near the Sector 70-71 light point.
The report stated: “A spot inspection of the site was done. Besides, the area SHO and the XEN, in-charge for the maintenance of traffic light signals, from the office of Municipal Corporation, SAS Nagar, briefed the undersigned. An FIR of the incident was analysed leading to following fact findings.”
“On September 8, 2019, at around 7 am, a Brezza (bearing registration No. PB 29 AB 0012) collided with an auto-rickshaw near the Sector 70-71 traffic lights,” the report stated.
“The two vehicles were approaching the traffic-light junction from two adjacent roads. They collided as the auto-rickshaw was negotiating a turn towards left while the car was coming straightway from an adjacent road,” the report added.

This seems to be true as ascertained from the photographs of the car showing extensive damage, the overturned auto-rickshaw, and the number of deaths (four),” the report stated.
The report also pointed out that the auto-rickshaw was overloaded, carrying passengers way beyond its carrying capacity.
“It also ought to be noted that some print media have reported that the traffic lights are not working properly. However, the XEN in charge for maintenance of traffic light signals, from the office of Municipal Corporation says the traffic lights are micro-processor based and automatically start functioning at 7 am,” the report added.
“It cannot be ignored that the injured were carried to hospitals in private vehicles instead of ambulances. This could also be due to lack of awareness among people about helpline number for ambulances,” the report stated.
“An FIR has been registered in this matter under Section 304A among others against the car driver,” the report added.
