Retd IPS officer begins probe into varsity ‘scam’

Retired IPS officer, VK Kapoor, on Thursday came to Punjabi University to probe files related to misappropriation during the tenure of previous Vice-Chancellor (VC) Jaspal Singh.

This is four months after V-C, BS Ghuman, formed a two-member committee in February to probe the alleged scams and submit the files in three months’ time. Retired IAS officer, Jagjeet Puri, is already probing matters related to the scams in the university. 

The committee members are supposed to investigate the 15 probe files, including violation of norms of University Grants Commission (UGC) for appointments in the university, the sale of antique furniture, paper purchase, purchase of answer books and software in examination branch among others.—TNS
