Rishabh Sharda drubbed Sandeep Kumar Kothari 8-1 in the men’s second round qualifying match on the opening day of The Tribune State Tennis Tournament at the CLTA Complex, Sector 10, here today.

Top seed Jatin Dahiya defeated Chinmay Bakshi 8-1, while second seed Anvit Bendre blanked Ishpreet Singh 8-0. Third seed Amarnath Arora humbled Fardeen Qumar 8-4. 

Calvin Golmei edged past Praveen Kumar 8-3, while fourth seed Vilasier Khate got the better of Ronak Wadhwani. Shubham Gajraj registered an 8-0 win over Harmender Yadav. Koonwar Gupta, Chandan Agnihotri, Ranjeet Singh and Arpit Sharma also won their respective matches.

In the boy’s U-14 qualifiers, top seed Parth Goel brushed aside Aarush Datta 8-1 in the second round. Second seed Aryan Thakur dismissed Satvik Singla 8-0, while fifth seed Rakshit Dhankar got the better of Yash Jindal. Keshav Dangi tamed Veerinder Singh 8-1. 

Ajay finishes 2nd in Asian U-14 C’ship

Ajay Singh of the Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association finishes second in the Asian U-14 Championship held at Gurugram from October 2 to 7. Singh defeated Sidharth Malik 6-3 6-0 in the quarterfinals before sealing a spot in the summit clash with a 6-2 6-3 win over Udit Gogoi. In the finals, Singh lost to top seed Korean Woobin Shin 6-4 1-6 2-6.
