Panic gripped city residents after they heard a sonic boom and explosion in the morning today. Meanwhile, police officials denied any explosion or any untoward incident in the district.
Around 11:15 am, people came out of their houses and shops to find out what had happened. The administration and police officials also swung into action and started gathering information about the source of the noise.
The DCP (Headquarters), Sultan Singh, said police teams found nothing as they had verified from all quarters.
Meanwhile, the social media was abuzz with the news of some explosion as the panicked people asked others whether or not they heard the sound.
The people from other districts and in some cases even from other states started calling their relatives in Ambala to ask about the deafening sound.
“Initially, we panicked but found nothing,” said Ravi Kumar, a local resident.
Some people claimed that windows and shutters of their houses and shops vibrated. However, no major damage was reported.
As there was an exercise of fighter jets in Ambala some people were connecting the incident with it. However, there was no response from the Air Force when contacted.
The SP, Ambala, Mohit Handa, said, “The sound has been heard but its source is still untraced. We have confirmed from all police stations and no untoward incident has been reported. We are in contact with all the agencies and defence establishments, but nothing has come out so far.”
