Staff of the Sewa Kendra in Dera Bassi tehsil held a strike in protest against the non-payment of their salaries here on Monday, causing inconvenience to people who had come to get their works done.

They raised slogans against the government and submitted a memorandum of their demands to the Sub-Division Magistrate. Employees are annoyed as they have failed to get their salaries for the past six months and demanded early release of the same. They threatened to intensify the protest if their salaries were not released soon.

“We are working like bonded labourers from morning to evening. We have no money for admissions of our children as we have not received our salaries for the past six months,” alleged one of the employees.

They urged the local administration to ensure timely disbursal of salaries, adding that they would intensify their agitation in the days to come if they did not get their pending salaries. — OC
