CHANDIGARH:Sara Yadav stunned top seed Seerat Kaur Pannu 6-2 6-3 to book a berth in the women’s quarterfinals in the ongoing CLTA-AITA National Ranking Tennis Championship here on Tuesday.

Sara Yadav stunned top seed Seerat Kaur Pannu 6-2 6-3 to book a berth in the women’s quarterfinals in the ongoing CLTA-AITA National Ranking Tennis Championship here on Tuesday. 

Second seed Anupreet Bedi blanked Simarjeet Kaur 6-0 6-0, while third seed Kaavya Sawhney packed off Gurleen Singh 6-4 6-0 in the pre-quarterfinals at the CLTA Complex, Sector 10. 

Fourth seed Anaam Almas registered a 7-5 6-1 Gayatri Kumariaha. Fifth seed Himaanshika drubbed Amrita Yadav 6-1 6-1 and seventh seed Prinkle Singh ousted Priyanka Rodricks 6-2 6-4. 

Eight seed Neha Ghare moved into the quarterfinals with a 6-2 6-3 win over Aditi Singh. 

Paramveer ousts Shashikant

In the men’s singles competition, top seed Paramveer Singh Bajwa humbled Shashikant Rajput 6-2 6-4 to move into the quarterfinals. 

Vilaser Khate outplayed Ominder Baisoya 6-2 6-1, while N Calvin Golmei dispatched Ranjeet Singh 6-1 6-3 in the pre-quarterfinals. Sixth seed Shubham Malhotra overcame qualifier Keneizesotuo Whourie in a see-saw battle.  

Malhotra won the opening set 6-4, but Whourie drew level with a 6-4 win in the second set. Malhotra though seized the decider 6-2 to stay in contention for a place in the semifinals.

Seventh seed Bharat Nishok Kumaran had easy pre-quarterfinal outing as he drubbed Eklavya Singh 6-0 6-1. Rishabh Sharda continued his impressive run with a 6-4 6-1 win over Mohit Bhardwaj, while Udayan Bhakar beat Digvijay Singh Mehta 6-1 7-5 in the pre-quarterfinals.  

Ominder-Whourie advance

In the men’s doubles pre-quarterfinals, top seed pair of Ominder Baisoya and Keneizesotuo Whourie overcame Yuvraj Singh Kooka and Aakarshit Mahajan 6-4 5-7 10-7. 

Second seeds Jagmeet Singh and Paramveer Singh Bajwa downed Harshom Gupta and Hemant Kumar 6-2 6-4, while Hardeep Singh and Yuvraj Singh stunned third seed Mohit Bhardwaj and Udayan Bhakar 6-2 6-3. Harshit Yadav and Mayank Yadav registered a 6-1 7-5 win over Jitin Kumar Chetry and Manveer Singh in the pre-quarterfinals. 

Shashikant Rajput and Krishan Hooda dismissed Uday Jyoti Das and Harmanjot Singh 6-2 6-1, while fourth seeds Shubham Malhotra and Rhythm Malhotra came from behind to beat Bharat Bhardwaj and Yogesh Phogat 4-6 7-6(9) 10-5. 

In the women’s doubles category, Alisha Menon and Gayatri Kumariah defeated Adity Dogra and Vrinda Sharma 6-3 7-5 in the pre-quarterfinals. Ashpreet Kaur Bajwa and Sukhmani Sahota outplayed Apeksha Solanki and Priyanka Rodricks 6-4 6-1.
