Sattriya dancers light up classical fest at Kalagram

Magnificence and distinctive style of grace  of ‘Sattriya’ dance, the  latest entrant to the repertoire of classical dances, was presented by  Dr Anjana Moyee Saikia and troupe from Guwahati on Day five of the NZCC National Classical Dance Festival at Kalagrama here today.  

The accomplished danseuses from Assam led by Dr Anjana began their performance  with ‘Sadhdari Nritya’,  which melted into  the  ‘Jhoomra’ dance and then ‘Geetor’ dance performed to background music and songs of adulation, all relating to the ‘leelas’ of  Lord Krishna and Gopis. Next came  ‘Rojaghoriya Chali’ dance followed by ‘Abhinaya Amrit Manthan’ and the concluding ‘Mela’ dance.

Director, NZCC, honoured Dr Anjana’s  group in the presence of Kathak maestro Guru Shobha Koser and  Bollywood artiste Nandita Puri.  — OC
