UT schools have been directed to maintain cleanliness and ensure proper segregation of dry/wet waste ahead of the ‘Swachh Survekshan-2019’, a pan-India cleanliness survey.
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) will conduct inspections to rank all cities and towns between January 4 and January 31, 2019.
The assessment and rating of schools on overall cleanliness will be based on three parameters — infrastructure availability, maintenance of school premises and equipment and feedback from students, staff and faculty. The parameters may also be utilised
for conducting self-evaluation by the authority
concerned to identify the areas of improvement and intervention.
The boundary wall, entrance/exit gate and corridors in schools should be in a good condition. The team will review the arrangements for waste management, including colour segregation available within every 250 metres, waste cartage equipment (rickshaws/tractors/trolleys/handcarts) and availability of composting equipment/compost pit.
The schools with separate boys and girls toilets, one disabled friendly facility each for students, teachers, visitors and non-teaching staff will score good points. Besides, schools with covered sources of drinking water and availability of gardens are expected to score good. Regular sweeping of school premises and cleaning toilets, availability of water facility in toilets, regular cleaning of water tanks, swimming pools (wherever possible), water coolers and daily collection of waste from dustbins will fetch good marks.
Feedback from members on availability of toilet facilities for students/staff/faculty members/visitors/parents, availability of sufficient number of dustbins for waste disposal , waste collection done daily, cleaning of drinking water coolers and surroundings, school premises (activity rooms/labs/swimming pool/canteen) overall cleanliness and maintenance will also be evaluated.
