The department has generated nearly Rs 12 lakh from this complex in six months.

“The revenue from this centre is surely helping us in a big way. The major source of income is from bookings. While a nominal fees is being charged from the players,” said Joint Director Mahinder Singh.

The second indoor sports complex at Sector 34 Government School is also ready, while the centre at Mani Majra is nearing completion.

Notably, the UT Engineering Department is building more such complexes, but managing these centres is a huge task. “We are working on that front…We are moving in the right direction and that is why we are ready to take charge of the complete complex. The residents and sports lovers will be given full opportunity to enjoy,” added Mahinder Singh.

The Sector 43 complex was inaugurated by Punjab Governor and UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore on January 2, 2017. However, the complex was thrown open to players six months later in June.

“On its first anniversary the complex has become a famous spot for the sports lovers. There have been large number of entries for badminton and we are now eyeing to improve the facilities for squash and table tennis,” said District Sports Officer Ravinder Singh.
