The all-weather swimming pool at Sector 23 is all set to get new changing rooms for both men and women.
The project to construct three extra changing rooms for men is expected to complete in November and the work on building additional changing rooms for women will start after that, said a source.
It is for the first time since the construction of the pool in 1962 that new changing rooms would be built on the arena. “The current changing rooms have only three showers, which will be extended to six. Further, the shower and sitting area will be extended,” said a source in the Engineering Department.
The source further said similar additions would be made to the female changing rooms. “We are expecting to complete the work on the men’s changing rooms before November. The other changing rooms will be completed next year,” said the source.
The blue print of the need-based changes has been already submitted to the Engineering Department. “A couple of objections were raised. We have overcome them and have also submitted the estimated amount to officials concerned,” said Sports Department official.
The Sector 23 pool is among the famous destinations for swimming lovers and has over 500 members.
“It’s a good decision by the administration. At present, only four persons can take shower at a time. The addition will surely befit all the members,” said Naveen, a regular at the pool.
“Besides building changing rooms for men and women, the administration should also work on building a separate change room for kids,” said Nupur, another member.
