The trainees at the Sector 23-based table tennis hall will soon be able to practice in the comforts of an air-conditioned centre. The UT Sports Department has sent a proposal to the Chief Engineer for installing a 24 ton air-conditioning plant at the facility.
If all goes well, it will be the first air-conditioned table tennis centre in the city.
The proposal was approved by the UT Sports Department and has been submitted to the Office of the Chief Engineer, said a source.
Once the proposal is approved, work to invite tenders and installation of the plant will be processed.
The centre was opened in May 1996 and is one of the main coaching centres for the local paddlers. It can support 10 tables and there are 48 metallic halide lamps for indoor lighting.
“The proposal has been submitted to the authorities concerned. Though there is already a delay in getting the final approval, we are expecting to complete the process before July 17. It will be among the first centres of the (Sports) department to have such facility,” said an official, requesting anonymity.
As per the proposal, there will be three different ventilations for seven-ton-load air conditioners (24 ton in total) to cool the area.
“It was a long pending demand of the players. In summers, it’s difficult to play here. Due to the high voltage lamps, conditions get tougher,” said Pragiti Kapur, a senior player of the centre.
Meanwhile, the Office of the Chief Engineer confirmed that a proposal for air conditioning of the Sector 23 table tennis hall had been submitted.
