Chandigarh, August 20

Getting  a no objection certificate (NOC) for buildings or establishments from the Fire Department is easy now. The Municipal Corporation has decided to accept self-certification for the issuance of an NOC.

Sources said B Purusharatha, Municipal Commissioner, had approved the proposal put forth by the Fire Department.  Sources said under the new system, the department  would empanel fire  experts who would  give certificates  to owners  after  checking the premises. Details regarding the mandatory  requirements  for  each type of building will be made available on the website.  The owners can also check is they are meeting all  requirements  or not.     The sources said the new system will end harassment and corruption. An official of the  department said random checks would be conducted and in case of any shortcoming, the fire  experts  would face the music.

Besides  cancelling the  NOC and imposing penalty, the department will blacklist the experts.  The department had  recently  started  the centralised system  for  accepting the  applications for various  works.
