Seven women achievers felicitated
Chandigarh, July 6
The Chandigarh Chapter of Public Relations Council of India (PRCI), in association with Panjab University Alumni Association, today felicitated seven women achievers and Neerja Bhanot Pan Am Trust for their accomplishments and contribution to society.
The achievers were given PRCI Daughters’ Day awards during an event organised at Panjab University.
Polio-afflicted paralympic table tennis gold medalist Poonam and international chess players Arunima and Tarini Goyal, as well as international skater Vidushi Rawat, who holds Asian record of skating 15 hours continuously, were honoured.
Supreet Dhiman, a social activist whose campaign against incest garnered international attention, was recognised for rescuing victims and providing them psychological support. Sharmita Bhinder, who runs EmPower, an NGO, was feted for working for special children.
Sartaj Lamba, an entrepreneur and chairperson of AJ Group of Companies, was awarded for empowering girls in slums through literacy and vocational training, and being a role model for budding entrepreneurs.
The Neerja Bhanot Pan Am Trust was recognised for running the Neerja Bhanot Award since 1986, which had been celebrating the women of substance and values who had become an epitome of rightful action, restoring women’s dignity and inspiring others.
PRCI vice-president CJ Singh said the council had been observing week-long events pan-India since 2006 in memory of astronaut Kalpana Chawla, who birthday fell on July 1. — TNS
