Established in 1966, Sri Guru Gobind Singh College (SGGSC) in Sector 26, a premier institute of Sikh Educational Society, is committed to academic excellence and a religio-cultural and social enhancement. The college was established as a tricentennial memorial to 10th Sikh Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the great saint-soldier and a scholar par excellence.

The then Chief Minister of Punjab, Sardar Partap Singh Kairon, laid the foundation stone of the college on August 29, 1963. The NAAC accredited and multi-faculty coeducational institute affiliated to the PU, Chandigarh, caters to about 6,500 students in arts, science, commerce, computer science and biotechnology.

The college is known for winning Sir Shaadi Lal Trophy — General Championship in Sports (Panjab University) for the past 10 consecutive years. It offers substantial freeships and scholarships to deserving candidates in academics, sports, cultural and social activities. The proposed new courses include MSc Physics and MA Sociology in the current session along with NSS as an elective optional course at undergraduate level and BA with Religious and Sikh Studies as an elective optional subject will be inducting its second batch of students this year.
