Chandigarh, June 13
The Scorpio used by assailants, including Navjot Singh and one Guri, who had opened fire at a Chandigarh resident on May 31, was today recovered from Asa Khera village in Dabwali of Sirsa district, where three gangsters allegedly committed suicide after being cornered by the police.
A team of Chandigarh Police will be visiting Sirsa district to probe the case. The same SUV was used to shoot at cops in Paonta Sahib.
On May 31, the trio arrived outside the house of one Jatinder Singh at Makhan Majra, Chandigarh, in a Scorpio. The accused called Jatinder out and threatened him. One of the accused opened fire at him, following which the victim ran inside the house and escaped unhurt.
Two accused in the case, Navjot Singh and Guri, were identified by the police and booked for attempt to murder at the Mauli Jagran police station. A few days later on June 6, Navjot and around six persons, who were in the same vehicle, opened fire at Himachal Police personnel at the Yamuna barrier near Paonta Sahib. A team of Chandigarh Police was following the accused when the incident took place.
The police said the two accused, Navjot and Guri, were not accompanying the assailants who had committed suicide, when the teams of Punjab and Haryana police cornered them during the wee hours today. “We will coordinate with the police of the neighbouring states to get information on the Navjot and Guri who
are on the run,” said a police official.
The Scorpio used by the gangster is owned by one Jagjit Singh, a resident of Padol village, Mohali.
