Panchkula:  A shopkeeper committed suicide at his shop in Saketri on Tuesday. No suicide note has been recovered from the spot. Shamsher Verma (44), who runs a glass store, was found dead inside his shop on Tuesday morning. His son, Ravi, told the police that his father had told him last evening that he would sleep in the shop tonight, which was a routine for the family. When Ravi reached the shop on Tuesday morning, he found his father hanging from a hook on the roof. Shamsher hanged himself from a muffler, which he had asked his son to bring from home. TNS

Worker falls to death

Kharar: A 25-year-old construction worker, Ram Chand Mehta, died after he fell from an under-construction multi-storeyed building in Desu Majra village here on Tuesday. Investigating officer Head Constable Jaswant Singh said the deceased hailed from Bihar. After a brick-laden trolley reached the 12th floor of the building with a lift, his leg slipped and he fell down. He died on the spot. The police have initiated inquest proceedings. OC

Kidnapping: Youth booked 

Mohali: The police on Tuesday booked a youth for allegedly kidnapping a 17-year-old girl. According to the police, the girl, a resident of Badh Majra colony, went missing on February 22. The girl had gone out of the house to run an errand on February 22 around 10 pm, but did not return. The duty officer said on the complaint of her family members, the police have booked a youth, Gopal, for allegedly kidnapping the minor. A case has been registered against the accused under Sections 363 and 366-A, IPC. A police official said they were investigating all angles, including elopement. TNS
