Sidharth sails into quarters

Sidharth Goel blanked Arindham Aggarwal 6-0 6-0 to enter the boys U-14 quarters in the STA Talent Series (TS-7) Tennis Championship at the Chandigarh Club, Sector 1, here today. 

The youngster, though, had to taste defeat in the U-16 category as he bowed to Abhay Mohan 4-6 3-6.  

Pranav Chopra, meanwhile, overcame Sarthak Gandhi in a sea-saw battle to ensure a place in the U-14 quarters. 

After winning the opening set 6-1, Chopra lost the second set 3-6. He, however, regained his composure in the decider to beat Gandhi 6-2.

Pranay Mittal blanked Dyumat Sachdeva, while Gaurav Kumar registered a 6-0 6-0 win over Chirag Malhotra. Mahismat Kumar drubbed Amish Bansal 6-2 6-2.

In the boys’ U-16 pre-quarterfinals, Ajay Singh dumped Akash Srinivasan 6-1 6-0, while  Sukhpreet Jhoje humbled Gurjosh Singh 6-3 6-3. 

Manveer Singh entered the quarterfinals after beating Navkaran Singh 

6-0 6-2. 

Dhananjay Singh overcame Avish Verma 7-6(8) 6-1, while Aryan Thakur got past Gaurav Kumar in an intense three-setter to seal a spot in the last-eight stage.

Kumar took the lead with a 7-6(6) win the opening set, but a resilient Thakur drew level after beating his opponent 6-4 in the second set.  

Kumar, however, held on to his nerve to win the decider 6-2.

Pawandeep Kaur, meanwhile, got the better of Radhika Vasudeva (6-0 6-1) to move into the girls’ U-16 second round. 

Suryanshi Tanwar registered a 6-0 6-1 win over Aarzoo Gill, Japjot Kaur thumped Vrinda Sharma 6-2 6-0. Simran Pritam had an easy outing against Amarjot Kaur as she won 6-1 6-1. Manit Kumari edged past Nishita 6-0 6-3. 

Jaskirat Kaur rallied from a set down to stun Aditi Singh 1-6 7-6(3) 6-4.
