Over a year after the launch of the scheme, the Chandigarh Housing Board has approved single tendering for the construction of 200 two-bedroom Flats in Sector 51.
The CHB had launched the Self-Financing Housing Scheme in April, 2016. But the construction of the flats was delayed due to the presence of encroachments on a part of land.
The board had earlier decided to construct the flats in two phases. It was decided to construct 128 flats in the first phase and the remaining 78 in the second phase after the removal of encroachments, but the plan did not materialise and the CHB had to cancel the tenders twice
Later, the board decided to issue single tender for the construction of 200 two-bedroom flats in Sector 51. The Board of Directors had approved the revised plan.
Maninder Singh Bains, chairman of the CHB, said with the approval of the tender, the CHB would try to hand over the possession of the flats to allottees on time.
Sources said the revised plan had been prepared to avoid further delay in the construction.
While the 78 flats are likely to be constructed at the new sites, a green park can be developed on the encroached land.
The CHB has launched the scheme in Sector 51 after eight years. The tentative price of each unit is Rs 69 lakh. The covered area of the typical dwelling unit (DU), including apportioned areas, is approximately 1,073 square feet. The above said area excludes the area of the parking and balconies. On all four floors, there shall be a drawing/dining room, kitchen, two bedrooms with attached toilets, a dressing room a and store, three balconies, parking space on stilt floor and lifts for all floors.

The board has provided the facility to more than 1,659 applicants under various categories so far. Sources said the board had now decided to impose a penalty on officials who delayed files. The Tatkal section is putting up cases before the competent authority within three days from the date of the receipt of application.
