SIT asks former Punjab MLA to join investigation

The Panchkula Police have asked the former Punjab MLA, Harminder Singh Jassi, who is father-in-law of dera head’s son Jasmeet Insan, to appear before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in connection with ongoing investigation of Panchkula violence, on January 3.

Confirming the development, Panchkula Police Commissioner, AS Chawla said, the ACP, who was heading the team had contacted Jassi and asked him to appear before the SIT. Jassi had sought some time and he was likely to turn up before the SIT on January 3, he said.

Replying to a query of reason to ask Jassi to join investigation, Police Commissioner said he cannot divulge details about the investigation. Honeypreet, the adopted daughter of rape convict Dera Sacha Sauda chief— Gurmeet Ram Rahim— is charged with criminal conspiracy, sedition and is prime accused of violence in Panchkula on August 25 that were triggered after conviction of the Dera chief. As per the police charge sheet, the entire conspiracy to spread violence in Panchkula was hatched at the dera headquarters by Honeypreet and the 45-member dera management committee. — TNS
