Sonepat man convicted of cheating, impersonation

The junior magistrate’s CBI court here today found yet another Sonepat resident guilty of cheating and impersonation in an eight-year-old case.

The convict, Satbir, had sent some other person in his place to appear in the entrance exam for a post of Municipal Corporation fireman. 

The quantum of sentence will be announced on Saturday.

Two weeks ago, Tinku of Sonepat was sentenced to three years in jail in the same case.  However, separate FIRs were registered against all the accused and this is the second case to be decided.

As per the CBI’s challan in the matter, Satbir had appeared in the exam for a post of fireman in the fire and emergency wing of the Municipal Corporation on May 23, 2010. On the basis of source information, it was found out that some persons had impersonated the genuine candidates to clear the exam.

The case came to light after candidates close to his roll number were examined. They revealed that while Satbir was present for the physical examination, some other person had appeared in the written test in his place.

However, the impersonator was never recognised or arrested. 

While the physical exam was conducted at the Police Lines in Sector 26, the written exam was held at DAV College, Sector 10.

The challan against Satbir was filed under Sections 120-B read with 467, 468, 420, 419 and 471 of the IPC.

The case
