The Chandigarh international airport in Mohali will soon have automated vehicle parking management system.

The trial in this regard is already on. The entry to the departure area has been made completely free, while the visitors to the arrival arena have to pay charges as per time slot. Besides, the parking charges and access fee for commercial vehicles have already been reduced from Rs 85 to Rs 50.

The airport authorities have awarded a tender for installation, testing, commissioning and operating of the system for a period of five years.

“The concessionaire has to procure, install and operate the integrated automated vehicle parking management system (software and hardware). Hence, issuance of manual parking tokens and payment receipts will strictly be prohibited,” said Prince Dildar, spokesperson of Chandigarh International Airport Limited. Traffic marshals would be appointed for lane management. It had to be ensured that no vehicle overstayed beyond reasonable time on pick/drop lane under the system, he said.

The airport authorities said it had also to be ensured that complaints/grievances of visitors and the authorities’ response on those would be recorded properly.

An express lane and auto gate/barrier will be installed at the airport and the booth for collection and monitoring of access fees shall be equipped with automated access control kit.
