Sougata stuns Jubin, Deepit defeats Rohit to enter semis

Sougata Sarkar of LIC registered an 11-9 11-2 11-9 11-8 win against Jubin Kumar of ONGC to march into the semifinals of the men’s category in the All-India Public Sector Promotion Board Table Tennis Tournament at the Sector 23 TT Hall here on Sunday.

Deepit Patel of ONGC faced some resistance from Rohit Chkarborty of LIC before registering an 11-8 11-6 9-11 9-11 13-11 4-11 11-4 victory. Sourav Saha of ONGC had an easy run against Nikhil of FCI as he logged an 11-7 11-4 11-7 11-5 win, while Mohammed Ali of FCI defeated Bharat Krishan of RBI 11-5 11-7 5-11 11-6 11-9.

Meanwhile, in the men’s doubles semifinals, Sougata Sarkar and Rohit Chkarborty of LIC overpowered Nikhil and Mohammed Ali of FCI 11-6 10-12 9-11 11-5 11-3. The pair of Sourav Saha and Jubin Kumar of ONGC also reached the final by defeating P Vigany Reddy and Asif of RBI 11-9 11-8 11-7.

In the doubles quarters, Saha and Jubin Kumar of ONGC came from one game down to beat Bhavin Desai and Veera Ragvan from ESIC 9-11 11-8 6-11 11-6 13-11. 

Sarkar and Chkarborty of LIC also won their tie against Rishav Chaturvedi and Bharat Krishan of RB 10-12 11-8 11-7 10-12 11-8, while Reddy and Asif overpowered Rajesh and Ravi Joshi of LIC 11-8 14-12 13-11. In the last match, S Nikhil and Mohammed Ali of FCI beat Soroji Das and Subhendu of ESIC 11-8 11-8 11-6.

Mousumi storms to semis

Mousumi Paul of ONGC confirmed her berth in the women’s semis by defeating Harsha of RBI 11-3 11-4 9-11 11-6 6-11 11-8. Amrutha Pushpak of RBI also registered a 12-10 11-8 11-9 11-9 win against Shweta of RBI, while Poojashahbudhe of ONGC overpowered Prapti Sen of HPCL 11-9 4-11 12-10 2-11 11-6 7-11 11-3 in a tough battle. Nikhat Banu of RBI easily defeated Charvi of FCI 14-12 11-6 15-13 11-7. —TNS
