A student of a college in Sector 36 has taken to Twitter to highlight an incident of stalking and eve-teasing that took place with her in Sector 36. In her tweet, the girl narrated the incident and tagged the Punjab Police, who further asked the UT police to look into the matter.
The suspect was riding a motorcycle without a helmet. The girl clicked his picture and uploaded it on Twitter.
In her tweet, the girl stated, “This guy continuously followed me for a while in front of my college, looking back while riding, which made me feel uncomfortable. I confronted him and asked him to look on the road. He then took a U-turn, came near the footpath and weirdly started asking whether he should ride on the footpath by my side”.
The girl mentioned how the miscreant riding the motorcycle stalked her and drove on the pedestrian path till she reached the Sector 36 market. The girl pushed the miscreant and asked him to leave her alone. However, he allegedly intimidated her and told her that even if she calls up the police, nothing is going to happen.
The girl stated that she was stunned by the “confidence” of the miscreant, who roamed freely in the city. “I just need to put this out to the world — to all those who roam around girls’ colleges, stalking girls, teasing them — just stop. It is very uncomfortable for us. Because of your type, our parents worry about us every moment,” the tweet reads.
The girl had uploaded the picture of the suspect riding the motorcycle along with its registration number so that the police could take action.
A few hours after the girl’s tweet, the UT police rounded up the youth for questioning on Tuesday evening. “We will trace the girl and probe the matter,” said a police official.
