Statue of martyr Sandeep Sagar unveiled in Panchkula

Panchkula, June 25

The death anniversary of Major Sandeep Sagar was observed at the Sector 8/17 roundabout on Monday.

On the occasion, Haryana Urban Local Bodies Minister Kavita Jain unveiled the statue of the martyr at the roundabout and paid tributes. 

Jawans of the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry Regiment also offered guard of honour to the martyr.

Kavita Jain said the Panchkula Municipal Corporation would spend around Rs 4 lakh on the beautification of the Sector 8/17 roundabout along with maintenance of the statue of Major Sandeep Sagar here.

Panchkula MLA Gian Chand Gupta along with Prof Harbans Lal Sagar and Raksha Devi, parents of Major Sagar, paid tributes to him. 

Also planting of saplings was carried out at the martyrs’ place by the Local Bodies Minister and the Panchkula MLA.

Panchkula Mayor Upinder Kaur Ahluwalia, MC Commissioner Rajesh Jogpal and others also paid tributes.

Major Sandeep of the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry Regiment was deployed in Naushera sub-sector in Rajouri near the Line of Control (LoC) during Operation Vijay in 1999. 

Major Sandeep died in a landmine blast.
