The magnificence of regional folk music was brought alive by Sufi and Bollywood singer Malini Awasthi, Padma Shri, in a performance during an event organised by the Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi at Tagore Theatre here today.
The event was a part of the 9th Chandigarh Art and Heritage festival. The Chief guest was MP Kirron Kher who inaugurated the festival.
Vidushi Malini Awasthi presented a variety of songs including the romantic folk melodies, rare ritual songs, Sufiana kalaams, ‘thumri’ compositions and her songs from movies. Earlier, the CSNA artistes staged three short plays, Ruby ke Rubella, Mitti Rudan karey and New Business, at Kaimbala village, Manimajra and Kishan Garh, respectively. Simultaneously, the Plaza-17 reverberated with vibrant folk dances such as luddi , gidha and bhangra and the display of martial art Gatka by city groups.
