Chandigarh, November 18

After Panjab University (PU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Raj Kumar read out his statement in the Syndicate on the appointment of Prof Sanjay Kaushik as new Dean College Development Council (DCDC) on temporary basis, Syndic Prabhjit Singh objected to the language of Kaushik’s appointment order.

The appointment order from the VC had said that as the work of colleges was being affected and it further affected the image of the university, so new DCDC was being appointed. It also said that as the workload on both posts of Controller of Examination and DCDC was heavy so it should not be held by the same person. It also pointed out that Syndics and Senators had earlier objected to both posts being held by the same person.

However, all Syndicate members unanimously approved welcomed the appointment of Prof Kaushik.

Prabhjit Singh said Controller of Examinations (CoE) Prof Parvinder Singh, who was earlier holding the additional charge of DCDC, was doing good job. He objected to the language in the appointment order.

Syndic Amit Joshi questioned whether the appointment order was a part of the agenda. He said the appointment letter was issued from the VC to the new DCDC and to the former DCDC for information. As an employee could not approach a Senator for grievances, how come this letter was being circulated to selected members? he asked.

Syndic RK Mahajan said Prof Parvinder was doing good job and he could get signatures of principals of all affiliated colleges in his favour. The VC said he would look into it as per the sentiments of the Syndicate.
