With an aim to promote computational skills among students studying at government schools, the Education Department has asked maths teachers to give extra time on the subject.
The Director State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Punjab, has asked the teachers to make sure that Class VI –VIII students should know tables up to 20, square and cube up to 30 on their fingertips.
The step has been taken to increase calculating abilities among the students without using paper.
The department has also told the teachers that kids should be motivated to make table charts.
Maths teachers said the knowledge of basic skills was very important to solve the problems of every day’s life.
The schools would also hold competitions to improve the grip of students on tables.
Gagan Ranu, a maths teacher said, “Students should learn tables by heart as it saves time in solving equations. The activity will definitely enhance the problem-solving skills of the students.”
