The UT Education Department organised a cultural bonanza on the eve of Independence Day at Tagore Theatre here today.
The event was organised to pay tributes to those who sacrificed their lives for the country. Manoj Parida, Adviser to the UT Administrator, was the chief guest and BL Sharma, Education Secretary, was the guest of honour.
After the welcome address by Rubinderjit Singh Brar, DSE, a colorful programme started off with a ‘Vandana’ by students of DAV Model School, Sector 15. An action song was sung by students of Manav Mangal School, Sector 21, followed by a group song by students of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 16, and a classical dance performance by students of Delhi Public School, Sector 40. A ‘qawali’ was performed by the students of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 38 (West). A Punjabi dance was performed by students of the GGMSS-20B.
“It is the foremost duty of the citizens to value the contribution those who laid down their lives for the country. We should teach our students to be free from any bias on the basis of caste, colour and religion,” said Parida
The cultural programme was attended by several officers of the Chandigarh Administration.

Patriotic songs mark celebrations
Chandigarh: Akal Academy Reeth, Kheri, celebrated Independence Day with vigour to encourage patriotic feeling among students. The school was decorated with various artworks by students. The celebration began with the hoisting of the national flag by the principal. Students sang various patriotic songs and presented choreography. The function ended with a motivational speech by the principal and the national anthem. TNS
