The first day of online admissions for Class XI in government senior secondary schools of Chandigarh was marred by technical glitches. A number of students complained that they were unable to fill registration forms online.

Though the Chandigarh Administration had taken a unique initiative of accepting online application forms for admission for 2018-19, students faced a tough time in morning hours as the UT Education Department site crashed.

Meanwhile, District Education Officer (DEO) Anujit Kaur claimed that the site was crashed only for around two hours and later it was functional. There were two websites and if the UT Education Department website was not working, applicants could use the NIELIT website as well, she said. She said on the first day, over 5,000 online applications were submitted.

A senior official of the UT Education Department said the interested applicants could fill registration forms online at www.chdeducation.gov.in or nielit.gov.in/Chandigarh from June 6. The registration fee of Rs 130 can be paid only through net banking or by debit/credit card.

A student can fill up the option of at most 20 government schools and streams of his or her choice in the registration form in order of preference.

In case of any problem, a student could approach the designated schools from 9 am to 1 pm on any working day.

After filling the basic details, a unique ID and password will be generated. Using the ID and password, a candidate has to fill the registration form. A copy of registration from has to be filled at either of GMSSS located at Sectors 20, 37, 38 (West), 46, MHC and GSSS Mauli Jagran. The classes will commence from July 4.
