Patiala, February 16

The Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, Patiala, has signed an MoU with University of Groningen, The Netherlands, for collaborative research and teaching in the field of psychology. Under the exchange programme, students pursuing MA psychology (clinical and counselling) at the university will be able to spend part of the semester at the University of Groningen.

Officials said faculty from the university in Netherlands would be invited as visiting faculty for exchange of ideas as well.

The officials are organising a workshop on cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) as part of the exchange programme, aimed to equip the students with designing strategies and intervention techniques required for dealing with clients. The collaboration aims at providing the students with exposure to work with internationally acclaimed researchers as part of their training at the Master’s level.

Santha Kumari, head, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, said: “An interactive session on ‘choose psychology as a career’ would also be held on February 20 at the institute for the benefit of BA final year and MA final year psychology students of neighbouring institutions. The university will also begin a PG diploma (professional) in clinical and counselling psychology from July this year.
