The Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (TIET), Patiala, has been announced as the winner for student accommodation designed by McCullough Mulvin at the 29th International RIAI Architectural award at a ceremony in Dublin’s Mansion House. The university is the only university in India to be awarded for its student residences.

Among 15 categories, this year the RIAI Architectural Award shortlisted 32 projects, spanning 12 counties across Ireland as well as international projects in India. The jury chose 20 overall winners and gave awards to 12 highly commended and eight commended entries.  This year there were the highest numbers of entries for awards.

Meanwhile, the TIET has been ranked internationally by almost all prestigious rankings. Some of it includes recognition from Times Higher Education (THE), World University Rankings, QS Asia and QS BRICS rankings and NIRF.

Dr Prakash Gopalan, Director of the university, said: “Receiving an award for student residences is an honour.  We have been consistently included among the top global university rankings and have gained global recognition for the quality of our education we provide. This recognition of providing the best accommodation infrastructure to our students motivates us to give the best to the young talents associating with us.” — TNS
