Top seed Mohit stays on course

Top seed Mohit Mayur of Tamil Nadu lived up to his billing as he packed off sixth seed Neeraj Yashpaul of Chandigarh in straight sets to seal a spot in the men’s semifinals at the CLTA-AITA National Ranking Championship here on Wednesday. Mayur won 6-0 6-3. 

Second seed VM Ranjeet, also from Tamil Nadu, blanked Gujarat’s Puru Upadhyay 6-0 6-0 in the quarterfinals, while third seed Dalwinder Singh of Punjab got the better of fifth seed Jagmeet Singh of Haryana. Dalwinder won 6-2 6-4.

 Fourth seed Suraj Prabodh of Karnataka registered a 6-3 7-5 win over Punjab’s Hardeep Singh Sandhu to complete the semifinal line-up.

Renne quits

In the women’s quarterfinals, Haryana’s Renne Singhla was forced to concede her match against third seed Kashish Bhatia following an injury. Renne was leading 1-0 when she decided to quit the game.  

Vutukuru Lakshmi Sahithi Reddy of Andhra Pradesh ousted sixth seed Prerna Bhambri of Delhi 6-2 6-4, while fourth seed Sravya Shivani C of Telangana humbled seventh seed Avika Sagwal of Delhi 6-2 6-4. Salsa Aher of Maharashtra booker her berth in the semifinals with a 6-1 6-2 win over Odisha’s Bhargavi Kalaga. 

Mohit-Oges in semis 

Mohit Mayur and Oges Theyjo J downed Parav Dev Garg and Ankush Mishra 6-1 6-4 to move into the men’s doubles semifinals. 

LR Balaji and Kavin Masilamani came from behind to upset fourth seed Udayan Bhakar and Mohit Bhardwaj. The duo lost the opening set 5-7 but clawed their way back into the match with a 6-1 win the second. They then sealed the decider 10-2 to stay on course for the final. 

In the women’s doubles quarterfinals, Salsa and Kaavya Sawhney stunned top seed pair of Avika Sagwal and Yubrani Banerjee 6-3 6-4, while Akanksha Dileepkumar Nitture and Kashish Bhatia registered a 6-3 6-2 win over Himanshika Singh and Rutvi Chaudhari. 

Medhavi Singh and Ayushi Singh edged out Riya Uboveja and Rashi Malviya in the last match of the day. The duo won 6-2 6-3.
