Top seed Prinkle, Sarah in semifinals, Divesh stuns Rhythm

Top seed Prinkle Singh from Jammu & Kashmir defeated qualifier Prakriti Banwani from Madhya Pradesh to confirm her berth in the semifinals of the girls’ U-18 category in the CLTA-AITA Super Series Tennis Tournament at the CLTA Complex, Sector 10, on Wednesday. 

Prinkle beat Prakriti 6-0 6-1. Fifth seed Sanya Singh from Maharashtra stunned third-seeded local contender Himaanshika 6-1 6-3. Fourth seed Sarah Dev from Punjab outclassed eighth seed Vanshika Choudhary from Uttar Pradesh 6-1 6-0.

Qualifier Rutuja M Chaphalkar also moved into the semifinals after a 6-1 6-0 win over Ananya Singh from Delhi. 

In the girls’ U-16 category, top seed Sarah Dev of Punjab outplayed Kavya Khirwar from Delhi 6-2 6-4. Haryana’s Yana Dhamija beat third seed Vanshika Choudhary from Uttar Pradesh in a seesaw battle.

Yana won the first set 6-4, but Vanshika took the second 6-4. In the final set, Yana outclassed her opponent 6-1. Delhi’s Jagmeet Kaur blanked eighth seed Ameek Kiran Batth 6-0 6-0. Qualifier Pari Singh from Maharashtra also logged an easy win over Haryana’s Muskan Dahiya (6-2 6-3). 

Divesh beats top seed Rhythm in straight sets  

Sixth seed Divesh Gahlot of Haryana moved into the semifinals after registering a stunning 6-4 6-2 win over top seed Rhythm Malhotra from Delhi. Denim Yadav from Madhya Pradesh registered another upset of the day by defeating fifth seed Krishan Hooda of Haryana 7-5 7-5. Meanwhile, eighth seed Jagtar Arora beat qualifier Karthik Singh Panwar from Delhi 6-1 6-2, and second seed Ajay Malik from Haryana beat seventh seed Deepender Grewal 6-3 6-2.

In the boys’ U-16 category, top seed Sushant Dabas outplayed eighth seed Aman Dahiya after a slow start. It was not an easy outing for the Haryana boy, as he lost the opening set 4-6. However, he took the next two 6-3 6-3 to move into the semis. Third seed Ajay Malik beat fifth seed Nitin Jaipal Singh 6-3 6-2. Denim defeated fourth seed Dhruv Tangri 7-5 6-3, while second seed Divesh had to struggle a bit before defeating seventh-seeded local challenger Uddayvir Singh 6-2 7-6(2).

Top seeds in doubles final

The top-seeded pair of Devesh Pratap Pahuja and Nitin Jaipal Singh defeated Himanshu Duhan and Yogee Panwar 6-3 6-2 to ease into final of the boys’ U-16 doubles category. —TNS
