CHANDIGARH:Top seed Simardeep Sawhney edged out Harmanbir Singh in straight sets to enter the boys’ U-12 quarterfinals in the Roots-AITA (TS-7) National Ranking Championship in Zirakpur on Tuesday.

Chandigarh, June 25 

Top seed Simardeep Sawhney edged out Harmanbir Singh in straight sets to enter the boys’ U-12 quarterfinals in the Roots-AITA (TS-7) National Ranking Championship in Zirakpur on Tuesday. Sawhney won 4-1 4-0.

Divyam Sharma overcame Daksh Kapoor 4-0 2-4 4-1, while Sanidhya Dhar drubbed Kushagra Rawal 4-0 4-1. Advit Tiwari humbled Gopal Jee 4-3(5) 4-1 in the pre-quarters. 

Shorya Jistu humbled Dev Pratap Singh 4-1 4-2 to move into the quarters. Ankit Kumar defeated Kanav Bansal 4-1 5-3 and Pragun Thakur dismissed Arjun Singh 4-0 4-1. Siddharth registered an identical win over Gundeep Garg.

Sidak in quarters

In the girls’ U-12 pre-quarters, top seed Sidak Kaur tamed Avni Tanwar 4-1 4-0, while second seed Ajenika Puri blanked Arshiya 4-0 4-0. Inaaya Mittal ousted Bipin Kaur 5-3 4-1. 

Shrawasti drubbed Vanshika Yadav 4-0 4-0, while Ankita dispatched Shriya Gupta 4-1 4-1. Diya Chaudhary, Hitanshi Sardana and Akshdha Sharma also moved ahead. 

Dhairya advances 

Top seed Dhairya Chadha, meanwhile, downed Janish Tamak 5-4(5) 4-2 to seal a spot in the boys’ U-16 quarters. 

Second seed Rijul Bhatia thrashed Hardik Khanduja 4-0 4-1, while Jashandeep Singh dumped Dhruv Chaudhary 4-1 4-1. Umang Singh beat Divjot Singh 4-1 5-3. 

Kanwar Preet Singh registered a 4-1 2-4 4-1 win over Mohit. Kartik Sunil overcame Gurbaaz Singh 5-4(5) 4-0 and Gurpreet Singh packed off Ankit Kumar 5-4(5) 4-0. 

Vanya beats Khushleen

Vanya Arora ousted Khushleen Kaur to book a berth in the girls’ U-16 quarterfinals. The top seed won 4-2 4-0. 

Ayushi Prajapat prevailed 4-2 4-0 over Simar Atwal, while Ankita defeated Bhumi Kakkar 5-3 4-1. Omisha edged out Khushi 4-1 4-1 and Sargun managed a 5-4(4) 5-3 win over Anusha Verma. — TNS
