Truck, jeep collide; 3 dead, 6 hurt

Nanakpur (Pinjore), June 13 

Three youths were killed and six others, including three children, injured when their Bolero jeep turned turtle after colliding with a truck coming from the opposite direction on the Pinjore-Nalagarh road in the wee hours of Thursday.

The victims have been identified as Somnath (24) and Dishant Sharma (21), both residents of Bhadson in Patiala district, and Ravi, a resident of Karnal. 

Amit and Raghav (10), both residents of Renuka in Sirmour district of Himachal Pradesh, sustained serious injuries in the accident and were taken to the Civil Hospital in Sector 6, Panchkula, where doctors referred them to the PGI in Chandigarh.

Four other persons who were injured in the mishap are Amit’s wife Rimpi, Ananya, both residents of Renuka, Anshuman of Ambala City and Jagdeep Singh, aka Kala, of Bhadson in Patiala. They were discharged after treatment at the Sector 6 hospital.

On getting information about the mishap, a team from the Pinjore police station rushed to the site and took Somnath, Ravi and Dishant Sharma, who were grievously injured, and other persons to the Kalka Civil Hospital. Doctors at the hospital declared Ravi and Dishant as brought dead. Somnath and other persons were rushed to the Panchkula hospital. He died on the way and was declared brought dead. 

In his complaint to the police, Pardeep Singh, a resident of Bhadson, who was at the wheel, stated that they were going from Renuka to Manikaran in Himachal Pradesh in a jeep. Around 4.15 am near Nanakpur village, a truck overtaking another truck coming from the Nalagarh side hit the jeep. He said he tried to prevent a collision with the truck, but the latter hit his vehicle’s rear due to which it overturned. There were 12 persons in the jeep.

The truck driver, who escaped leaving the vehicle behind, has been booked.
