Chandigarh, July 23
A team of the Sector 39 police station has arrested two vehicle thieves and recovered four two-wheelers from their possession.
According to the police, an Activa scooter was stolen from outside a house in Sector 38-C on the intervening night of July 21 and 22, following which a case of theft was registered. The police said a team, led by ASI Parminder Singh, laid a naka near Kirshna Market in Sector 41 and apprehended the two accused, identified as Sachin Vaid, alias Tarzan, and Didar Singh, both residents of Sector 40, while riding the stolen scooter.
During interrogation, they confessed to having stolen three more two-wheelers, which have been recovered. One of the vehicles was stolen from the area under the Sector 39 police station while the other two motorcycles were stolen from Punjab.
The police said Sachin was earlier arrested in a theft case in May this year. He was released on bail on July 9.
The police claimed that Sachin was a notorious criminal and had more than 10 cases of vehicle theft, snatching and other crimes, registered against him. Didar Singh also has a criminal past.
Meanwhile, a team of the Sector 17 police station on Sunday recovered a Maruti car and a scooter from Hapreet Singh, a resident of Mohali who was arrested by a team of Cyber Cell in a fraud case. — TNS
