Amidst much excitement and cheer, the University Institute of Fashion Technology and Vocational Development (UIFT & VD), Panjab University, hosted its first alumni meet — Reconnect 2019 — on Friday.
Prominent alumni running their own entrepreneurial ventures participated with fervour.
Soni Makkar, who owns the popular design label with her own name, was the special guest of honour. Her recent venture Sohni Apparel Design is the online extension of her brand Sohni.
Prof Sween, the founder-coordinator of UIFT, was a guest of honour at the occasion.
Manpreet Walia, an entrepreneur and a former student of the UIFT, who runs her own fashion boutique in Mohali, said, “I feel honoured to be back at my alma mater. I would love to offer internship to ongoing batches and whatever industrial training I can offer, I will be happy to provide.”
Dr Prabhdip Brar, Chairperson, UIFT, said “The department has grown from two rooms and nine students to over 200 students from 2007 to 2019. It is overwhelming for us to see it growing unfathomably over the years,” he added.
The event was organised by the patron of the Alumni Association Rita Kant.
