Unidentified body found

Zirakpur: An unidentified body was found under mysterious circumstances near an under-construction plot at Baltana here. The body of a man was spotted  by a group of youngsters who were playing cricket in the ground on Wednesday morning .The police said while playing cricket, their ball landed in the bushes  and one of the boys who went to search the ball was shocked to find a decomposed body there. He rushed out of the ground and informed the people about the same, who later told the police. Satinder Singh, in-charge at the Baltana police post, said the deceased seems to be in his mid-30s. There were no injury marks on his body. The body has been in the mortuary at the Civil hospital, Dera Bassi, for identification. OC

Two held for illegal excavation

Zirakpur:  The police here on Wednesday arrested two persons for illegal excavation of sand from a basement near Singhpura village. The accused have been identified as Adiyta Gupta, a resident of Panchkula, and Agrim Gupta, a resident of Zirakpur. According to the police, acting on a tip-off the police party raided a place near Singhpura village where the accused were illegal excavating the sand from a basement area. The police said the accused took permission from the department concerned for a specific time period. But it was found that the accused continued to excavate the sand beyond the permissible time period.  A case has been registered under the Mining Act. OC

Farmer electrocuted

Chamkaur Sahib: A 38-year-old farmer was electrocuted when he was working at his fields. The deceased has been identified as Gurjit Singh, a resident of Chuharmajra village. The police said that Gurjit Singh was starting the tubewell motor when he got electrocuted. He was taken to the local civil hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. Inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC have been started, said the police. TNS
